The retro polka dot one….

Now before I start this post, I would just like to say, that I love, love, love every wedding that I have done at The Flower Studio.  They have all been individual, exciting and beautiful, no matter how big or small the budget has been.  But occasionally, a wedding comes along that goes on to my ‘favourite’ list…. whether it is a particular flower that has been used, the Bride’s personality, or the location, there is something special that just tips it from being a beautiful wedding to being pretty flippin mind-blowing.

This weekend I had one of those weddings…. and it was the lovely Heather & Joseph who were tying the knot – you may recognise their names as being the winners of our Wedding Flowers Competition last year…. read their entry, it is super-cute.

So, from just reading their competition entry I could tell that flowers were a pretty important part to their day, and as I got to know this couple, their personalities and how they were styling the rest of their wedding, I started to get more and more excited.  Although they had a vision of what they wanted, they were happy to let me input my ideas and even leave a few surprises for the big day itself.

The theme was 1950’s retro with red and white polka dots and ‘flowers everywhere!’.  Heather and Joe handmade a lot of the finishing touches themselves, including the menus and Order of Service, the place cards and even personalised badges for each guest as favours.

So let me start from the beginning….

Peel Cathedral was the location for the ceremony and was decorated with pew ends of Gypsophila and freesia… it smelt A-mazing!

After the ceremony, the guests were treated to tea and cakes in true 50’s style while the newly-weds had some photos taken…

The reception was held at The Glen Helen hotel and as instructed by Heather, I tried to put flowers everywhere!  She loves Gypsophila and although this delicate little bloom has a reputation for being dated and old fashioned, I personally think it looks fabulous en masse!

The tables were decorated with white birdcages, surrounded by white flowers with red accents.  The scent of freesia and peonies filled the room and along with all of Heather & Joe’s finishing touches, it looked and smelt perfect!

Bunting hung from every corner and fairylights lit up the trees, even the cake stand had little tea lights on!  I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed being part of this wedding and even though the Manx weather was its usual unpredictable self (torrential rain and thunder in June??) I could tell everyone had a perfect day and partied in to the small hours with bellies full of Red Velvet wedding cake!

So have a peek at the rest of my snaps and let me know what you think!  I can’t wait to see the official photos, taken by the super talented Elly Lucas (I have to admit, I have a slight girl crush on this lady… she takes amazing photos, sings like an angel and is stunningly pretty!).
